Product Description

Womens jacket in paisley design wool fabric has hallmark of simplicity, functionality and great aesthetics. These jackets have been created from classic paisley design shawls of India.

In addition to the Shatoosh and and the Pashmina weaving, Jamawar is another woven splendor of the Kashmir craftsmen. Compared to the other two, here the task is further complicated as the designs on these shawls are realized not by embroidery but by the simultaneous weaving with wool shuttles of different colors. In a jamawar jacket, the design is woven into the very fabric of the cloth. This is done by replacing the shuttle used in ordinary weaving with a series of small, eyeless wooden bobbins known in Kashmiri as Kani, each filled with colored yarn. The work is achieved by two or three weavers seated on a loom. The jacquard designs used by jacket manufacturers in Europe had profound influence on Kashmirs own kani designs. These shuttles known as kaani in the local language gives Jamawar another name, kaani shawl. The wool being delicate, it is essential to use the hands instead of machine and that requires enormous patience of the weavers, among all the other qualities. Due to the enormous effort put in weaving and the amount of time it requires to be completed, the prices of the real Jamawar shawls are very high in the market. These shawls were so special that they often make the exclusive royal gifts to foreign guests. They were also in vogue in many parts of Europe mainly as they held close resemblance to the paisley shawls.
